November Goals

Well, today’s it. If not now, then sometime in the next few days we’ll learn which party will win, the wishy-washy morons who can’t get anything done, or the ones who actually want me dead. Yes, I’m hoping for the morons who are actually held accountable for their misdeeds and aren’t actively hurting people.

Whatever. Goals.

October Goals
1. I’d like to get another 30K down in my new project.
Yes, I did this. I’d be more excited if I wasn’t terrified of death.

2. Hopefully find some time to edit an old project.
Did not have time for this. Too busy. Worrying takes up a lot of time.

3. Actually get back to editing my last WIP.  Not sure I’ll have time though.
Wanted to, but I wanted to distract myself from the horror more. You know how it is.

Not particularly successful. It’s been a tough month.

November Goals
1. Get to editing my old WIP. Seriously this time.

2. Find some time to write something. I guess.

3. Thanksgiving. Maybe it’ll be fun this year. But probably not.

Kind of sucks that conservatives are so awful to others. I wish people were nicer, but fat chance of them actually caring about those who don’t fit their mold.

October Goals

Okay, somehow it’s October, don’t know how that happened. Ha ha, a month left until the election, I’m fine, I’m totally fine, we’re not all going to die if it goes the wrong way or anything.

I can’t remember what I was supposed to be doing last month.

September Goals
1. Find something new to write that actually interests me.
At long last, I found something that I really want to write! Yay!

2. Edit something old to post on my other site. Luckily I have tons of options.
Getting around to it. I’m pretty sure I know what I’m going to go for.

3. Try to read some more. Maybe this will help me recharge.
Definitely didn’t do this as much as I’d like. I wish I had a few more hours in the day.

And now for October…

October Goals
1. I’d like to get another 30K down in my new project. Of course now my laptop has decided to randomly not type the R Y U I O and P letters. You wouldn’t believe how long it took me to get that sentence out. Ha ha this is giving me an aneurysm.

2. Hopefully find some time to edit an old project.

3. Actually get back to editing my last WIP.  Not sure I’ll have time though.

That’s the plan. What do you want to do? Are you glad the weather is changing?

September Goals

Well, I’m back on the internet, and I think we can all agree that’s a mistake. Though really, it’s the internet that’s the mistake. Just… all of it. Anyway, goals or whatever.

August Goals
1. Actually attempt to find more writer spaces and beta readers this month.
Like I had the energy to do this. I barely have the energy to talk to all the people I already know.

2. Find something that seems fun to work on.
Eh, kind of. I’m still feeling burnt out on everything, though, and it’s a process to getting back to normal.

3. Birthday. I’m looking forward to it with some trepidation. Did you know the bakery that makes my favorite cake had a fire and is now closed? And there’s no news as to when they’ll open again?
Miraculously, something went right this month and the bakery opened just two weeks before my birthday.

And now for September…

September Goals
1. Find something new to write that actually interests me.

2. Edit something old to post on my other site. Luckily I have tons of options.

3. Try to read some more. Maybe this will help me recharge.

This is what I hope to do this month. What do you want to do?

August Goals

Well, July was absolutely awful. It started with a bank error, proceeded to a presidential upset that I fear skews the election towards the party that wants to kill me, and now my doctor is leaving the practice I go to and now I have to get a new one and keep my fingers crossed that they’ll do their job property. Ha ha, everything is terrible. Needless to say, I haven’t been focusing much on my goals.

July Goals
1. Work on notes from beta readers. It looks promising so far.
Hey, at least I got this done before the world went to hell.

2. Find more beta readers and writer places. Please, just don’t make me have to go on Discord. Unfortunately it seems every other social media is dead now.
Did not even attempt this. Did not have the energy.

3. Sigh. Once again, update my etymology pages. I keep hoping they’ll update Blogger so it doesn’t suck any more, but fat chance of that happening when it took them a month to fix the problem with links.
Somehow the least odious portion of the month, and that’s saying something.

I never want July to come back. I can only hope August is better…

Ugh, I just want this year to be done.

July Goals

Well, we’re officially halfway through the year. Anyone else distressed at how this could have happened? No? Just me then?

June Goals
1. Start posting the web serial again, and keep working on it.
This at least was easy.

2. Do something fun and distracting to recharge.
Meh, kind of. Could probably use more recharging. My battery is very bad at holding a charge.

3. Work on getting beta readers for my WIP. Opening up to people with my work is hard, and I need people I can trust. So yeah. This is quite a task.
I did manage to do this, though I’m still hoping to find more. The finding is the really tough part.

Remember when there were a ton of write-bloggers? There were awards and contests and online get-togethers. Hell, you could go on social media and meet other writers there. It was awesome. I miss those days.

That’s what I want for this month, though who knows what will happen? What do you want to do this month? Where do you meet other writers?

June Goals

Somehow, it’s June already. Summer is weeks away, as is the midway point of the year. I’m sure I’ve accomplished absolutely nothing.

May Goals
1. Start writing something new.
Kind of. I’ve been fooling around with side stories to old projects. I still haven’t figured out what I want to work on next.

2. Edit the web serial and improve it.
Did this. Well, I edited. I’m not exactly sure I improved it.

3. Figure out what I want to do next for my last WIP. It’s not quite ready to be looked at by others, so I want to get it there.
I didn’t do this, as I haven’t been quite ready to look at it. I may need input from others.

As I thought, pretty much nothing. Some months you just have to get through.

What do you want to do this month? Where do you look for beta readers?

May Goals

Wow, somehow May happened when I wasn’t paying attention. Not thrilled with this. What was I even supposed to do this past month?

April Goals
1. Actually take some time to rest and creatively recharge.
Well, this was easy. I got a lot of reading done, so I’m pleased with that.

2. Update the etymology page. Ugh.
It’s still a huge pain in the ass and I still can’t get rid of the spaces between the words, but at least it’s done.

3. Figure out what I want to work on next. Something old? Something new?
I think I know what I want to work on next. Hopefully I’ll have the motivation to get underway.

Not bad, though it’s not like it’s a great burden to read and think about writing. Now for this month…

May Goals

2. Edit the web serial and improve it.

3. Figure out what I want to do next for my last WIP. It’s not quite ready to be looked at by others, so I want to get it there.

That’s what I want for this month. What do you want to do this May?

April Goals

Okay, now it’s April??? The year is a quarter done?????? That’s just wrong.

March Goals
1. Finish my editing for the new book. I think I’m down to eight hundred notes left. Eep.
I should be done by the time this posts. Fingers crossed.

2. Get the last chapters of the web serial ready to post.
Also very close to being done. Just the epilogue left now.

3. Work on something fun that isn’t editing. I definitely need it.
Wouldn’t you know, this is the one I didn’t have time to do.

Would have been nice to have some free time, but those notes were eternal. I added something like six thousand words of description, so yay?

April Goals
1. Actually take some time to rest and creatively recharge.

2. Update the etymology page. Ugh.

3. Figure out what I want to work on next. Something old? Something new?

March Goals

Okay, somehow it’s March? Already? How did this happen??? That’s just wrong…

February Goals
1. Finish my notes for the latest WIP. Most of them so far are “word it better” and “actually describe this”.
Hey, I finished. Twelve hundred notes. I need a drink.

2. Start working on my editing notes. We’re at twelve hundred. Hence why I said start.
I was able to start, though my progress was hindered by getting rather sick earlier in the month. Babies are cute, but such germ-spreaders.

3. Keep editing my web serial. Only about nine chapters left in part two…
At least this was easy enough. Five chapters before the end!

And that was last month. Now for this month…

March Goals
1. Finish my editing for the new book. I think I’m down to eight hundred notes left. Eep.

2. Get the last chapters of the web serial ready to post.

It’s March, and spring will be here in a few weeks. What do you want to accomplish?

February Goals

Great, an entire month is over already. I’m really getting sick of this happening. What did I plan to do last month?

January Goals
1. Work on some old projects to recharge enough to edit.
I must have recharged because I actually got to editing. It’s a miracle!

2. Update my etymology page again. Remember when this didn’t used to be torture?
I did this, and as always, it made me miss old Blogger so much. It used to be so easy…

3. UGH! Jury Duty! Hopefully I won’t get picked, because that would suck. And have I mentioned the bridge that I have to take to the courthouse is partially closed?
Yay! It’s done! They haven’t paid me my twenty five bucks yet. Twenty five dollars… Yeah, that makes giving up an entire day of my time worth it.

What a month. I’m so tired. And now we have February…

February Goals
1. Finish my notes for the latest WIP. Most of said notes so far are “word it better” and “actually describe this”.

2. Start working on my editing notes. We’re at almost eight hundred one thousand twelve hundred for the final count. Hence why I said start.

3. Keep editing my web serial. Only about nine chapters left in part two…

Ugh, goals. UGH, February. What do you want to accomplish this month?

January Goals

Oh, how did this happen? How is it 2024? This is wrong. Worse, this is an election year! AAAAAAAAAA!

December Goals
1. Finish my WIP.
Yay, I did this! It needs so much work before it’s readable by other humans, but the first draft is done!

2. Keep editing and posting my web serial.
Thankfully, this was also easy.

3. The holidays! Maybe they won’t be bleak and full of despair!
Meh, they were kind of. The countdown to the new year was more of a death march.

Ugh, January. UGH, 2024.

January Goals
1. Work on some old projects to recharge enough to edit.

2. Update my etymology page again. Remember when this didn’t used to be torture?

3. UGH! Jury Duty! Hopefully I won’t get picked, because that would suck. And have I mentioned the bridge that I have to take to the courthouse is partially closed?

This month is going to be hell from number 3 alone. I’m not even sure I’ll have time to visit blogs today (or yesterday for that matter, because that was when the jury duty started). This year has started like a kick to the head. What do you want to accomplish this month?

Resolutions 2024

Yeah I guess I’m doing this again. It’s something that fills a post slot, even if I don’t actually follow through.

1. Edit the book I wrote at the end of last year. I already know it needs a ton of work.

2. Edit the web serial to version 2 and post that.

3. Work on being more out there and pushing my stuff, even if it’s really, really hard.

4. Write a new book, perhaps the sequel to last year’s book.

5. Find something new to post online. I have several old stories that might work.

6. Try not to melt into a puddle of anxiety as the election looms. No big deal, it’s just between people with no spine and those who want to see me dead. I hate this! I never envisioned my life this way, make it stop!

7. Try to keep better track of my goals for this year (yeah, right).

Ha ha, 2024 is going to be a nightmare!!! What do you want for this year?

Reflections 2023

What the absolute hell happened? This year was… not great. In multiple ways. And very, very expensive. Companies are reporting record profits, because cereal is eight dollars now. Face lotion is thirty. If you go into Target, you can’t find someone to unlock the electronics you want to buy because there are like three people working in the whole store. Life is an endless nightmare, and we’re going into an election year. I want to crawl into a hole now before they take away my healthcare and a single cereal bar costs eighteen dollars.

I’m not even sure I can stomach to look at what I was supposed to do the last year.

Resolutions 2023
1. Keep looking for ways to promote my web serial (I am so, so bad at this).
Yeah, I’m even worse at this than I thought. Marketing and promotion are really confusing. I suppose I could create a hundred fake accounts and downvote a bunch of books by POCs and only upvote mine, or has that been done?

2. Write the second part of that web serial.
At least this was easy enough.

3. Finish the new web serial project I’ve been working on (less seriously, I don’t have much of a plan for this one).
This too, as I do really, really enjoy writing.

4. Write something else. Not sure what. I’m just assuming this will happen at some point.
Hey, I did this too, and have finished a book that I have been envisioning in some form or other for something like twenty five years. It’s nothing like how I first conceived it, but that’s probably a good thing.

5. Find a new social media to be active on since twitter is being slowly murdered. So far, Mastodon seems too complicated and Hive too shaky. There’s Tumblr, of course, but it’s, well, Tumblr.
Bluesky! It’s actually not terrible. I have some invite codes I have no idea what to do with, if anyone’s interested.

6. Work on losing some weight. Probably not going to happen, but I can try.
Okay, why the hell did I make this a goal? That was a stupid idea.

7. Start reading some new books. For the past few years, the only new things I’ve read have been graphic novels/comics, so I’d like to get back to reading some word novels again.
Hey, I did this! And now I’m chewing my nails waiting for the last book in the series trying to come out.

Don’t let the relative completion fool you. 2023 was terrible. Off to the hole.

Tuesday, December 5, 2023

December Goals

How the hell is it December??? That’s just not right. I need to complain about this to someone. We should only be in April at the latest, but here I am looking at what I did in November.

November Goals
1. Get to 60K on my WIP.
Hey, I did this. It was actually pretty easy.

2. Continue editing and posting my other WIP.
Another easy one. Set goals you were going to do anyway. It makes things easier!

3. Thanksgiving (dread)
Most of my extended family was busy this year and only able to stop by briefly. I didn’t have to stress myself out socializing and I got more desserts! Win-win!

It went better than I could have anticipated. You know, if you don’t look at the horrifying state of the world what with all the innocent people being slaughtered. Ha ha, things are terrible!

Anyway, December.

December Goals
1. Finish my WIP.

2. Keep editing and posting my web serial.

3. The holidays! Maybe they won’t be bleak and full of despair!

Oof. November. Not really expecting much from December either. What do you want to do this month?

Tuesday, November 7, 2023

November Goals

Well, it’s November somehow. I’m not pleased with this. Only two months left of the year! What the hell?

What did I plan to do last month?

October Goals
1. Keep editing the WIP and posting the chapters.
Well, this one was easy enough, and thankfully I did it.

2. Ugh, time to update the etymology page again.
UGH. This is such a chore, but I did it.

3. Get to work on the new WIP idea I have. Definitely excited about this.
I already made it to 32K, so about a third of the way through. Yay!

Successful, I guess. I still can’t believe it’s November, though. What should I do this month?

November Goals
1. Get to 60K on my WIP.

2. Continue editing and posting my other WIP.

3. Thanksgiving (dread)

The holiday season is upon us. Unfortunately. What do you want to do this month?

October Goals

What the hell? How did it get to be October? That’s not supposed to happen. Somebody needs to fix this.

As usual, I don’t remember what I planned for last month…

September Goals
1. Continue editing the book and promoting the web serial. I am so bad at this.
The editing’s still going on. Marketing is a dumpster fire. I don’t even know what it is. It sounds fake.

2. Work on something pointless that lets me recharge creatively.
At least this was easy enough.

3. Figure out what I want to work on next.
And I did this! Yay! I have an idea and everything!

Like I said last month, aim low. As I plan to this month.

October Goals
1. Keep editing the WIP and posting the chapters.

2. Ugh, time to update the etymology page again.

3. Get to work on the new WIP idea I have. Definitely excited about this.

Will I succeed? I aim so low, it would be astonishing if I didn’t. What do you want to do this month? Excited about Halloween?

Tuesday, September 12, 2023

September Goals

Another goals post, and only a week late. What do I want to do this month? Well, first let’s look at what I was supposed to do last month.

August Goals
1. Actually keep track of my goals this month. I let it slack when I stopped using sticky notes, but now that the evil rounded corners are gone, I can use them again.
Yes, I started keeping track of things. Eventually. Not that there was much to keep track of.

2. Finish Book 2. It’s got, like, three more chapters, so this should be easy.
I was able to do this! Book 2 is “complete”. Which is to say done without being totally edited.

3. BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Could have used more birthday.

Another success. That’s the secret: aim low. Aim so low no one will notice if you fail.

September Goals
1. Continue editing the book and promoting the web serial. I am so bad at this.

2. Work on something pointless that lets me recharge creatively.

3. Figure out what I want to work on next.

Still trying to find something that I want to work on. I need an idea that pulls at me. How do you decide what to work on? What do you want to do this September?

Tuesday, August 1, 2023

August Goals

On one hand, how is it already August? On the other, birthday month!!!!! What did I do last month?

July Goals
1. Reduce my blogging schedule. I know, it’s a shock. I’ve been at three times a week for over a decade now! Unfortunately, I don’t have as much energy as I used to.
Well, this was an easy one. Doing less work is not a problem for me.

2. Update my etymology page. You know what fun this always is.
Ugh, it’s done. Stupid Google screwing up Blogger.

3. Get to 90K on my WIP. I probably won’t get this far, but I’m hoping for a miraculous burst of inspiration.
So close! And since I’m writing this in advance, I may have actually reached it! Yay!

Not bad, in all, but they were some easy goals.

2. Finish Book 2. It’s got, like, three more chapters, so this should be easy.

3. BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m going to get cake! The cake I really love from the good bakery! AHHHHHHHH!

I’m very excited.

What are you going to do this month?

July Goals

We are on the downswing of the year now. I don’t know how it happened. I feel like it should still be March. Now let’s see what I didn’t accomplish last month.

June Goals
1. Get to 60K on the sequel WIP.
Only got to 55K. It was such an easy goal, too, but it’s been a pretty stressful month. There were days I opened my document and just stared at the screen. I called those weekdays.

2. Rearrange my whole writing schedule in a way that hopefully works since I have a bunch more stuff on my plate.
This at least has mostly worked. I’ve been babysitting my new nephew sometimes and did you know babies were a lot of work?

3. Keep trying on the marketing stuff, even if I have no idea how.
I didn’t even get to this. Ugh.

And now for what I’m not going to get done this month.

July Goals

3. Get to 90K on my WIP. I probably won’t get this far, but I’m hoping for a miraculous burst of inspiration.

So yeah. No more Saturday posts. I think I’ll intersperse comics with the spam posts now (EDIT: now because my computer crashed, it’s going to be comics for a while because I lost all my spam posts). Thursdays will still be dedicated to etymology, because I still really enjoy doing that. And I’m sure you do too.

What do you want to do this month?

June Goals

Crud, how is it June already? There’s no way I got anything done. May was over too fast.

May Goals
1. Plan out the second part of the web serial.
Already started working on it. I’m over 30K already.

2. Keep working on marketing—why does this have to be so hard?
Didn’t really do this. I have no idea how it works.

3. Try to recharge in some way so the stress doesn’t cause me to spontaneously combust.
I’m feeling slightly less stressed, I guess.

So that’s all. Not particularly successful. I’m not even sure what I should try for this month…

June Goals

2. Rearrange my whole writing schedule in a way that hopefully works since I have a bunch more stuff on my plate.

3. Keep trying on the marketing stuff, even if I have no idea how.

It’s a reasonable plan, I think. What do you want to do this month? It’s finally getting nice here, what’s the weather like where you are?
