May Goals

Wow, somehow May happened when I wasn’t paying attention. Not thrilled with this. What was I even supposed to do this past month?

April Goals
1. Actually take some time to rest and creatively recharge.
Well, this was easy. I got a lot of reading done, so I’m pleased with that.

2. Update the etymology page. Ugh.
It’s still a huge pain in the ass and I still can’t get rid of the spaces between the words, but at least it’s done.

3. Figure out what I want to work on next. Something old? Something new?
I think I know what I want to work on next. Hopefully I’ll have the motivation to get underway.

Not bad, though it’s not like it’s a great burden to read and think about writing. Now for this month…

May Goals
1. Start writing something new.

2. Edit the web serial and improve it.

3. Figure out what I want to do next for my last WIP. It’s not quite ready to be looked at by others, so I want to get it there.

That’s what I want for this month. What do you want to do this May?

May Goals

Well, as predicted, April was a pretty ugh month. I don’t even remember what I was supposed to be working on.

April Goals
1. Finish the web serial edits. Not sure I’ll be able to get there, but I should be able to get close.
I actually finished this! It’s a miracle! I thought it might take another month. I think it’s pretty good, but of course I’m horrible at judging my own work.

2. Update my etymology page. You know what a treat this always is. Stupid Google.
I did this, though as usual I was unable to get rid of the horrible space between all the words. I swear, Google is breaking Blogger bit by bit to drive us all away. It would explain why it’s suddenly not emailing me blog comments anymore.

3. Find some way to get my work out there more. Not that I have any idea how to do this…
As if I was able to figure this out. I really wish there was a list of clear, specific instructions for this sort of thing.

Okay, I guess. I’m not really looking forward to the stress May’s going to bring with it, though.

May Goals
1. Plan out the second part of the web serial.

2. Keep working on marketing—why does this have to be so hard?

3. Try to recharge in some way so the stress doesn’t cause me to spontaneously combust.

What do you want to do this May? Anything fun? If you’ve signed up for blog comments to be emailed to you, are you still getting them?

May Goals

Ugh, April was just wildly unsuccessful. Just another one of those months I’ve been having for the last fifteen years or so.

Ugh.

April Goals
1. Keep searching for beta readers for my book. It’s almost like people have lives outside of me or something.
Still working on this. Like I said, wildly unsuccessful.

2. Work on writing the new WIP I’ve decided I have to write right now this very moment.
I did this. I’m sure it’s not any good, but I got around 40K.

3. Update my etymology page, even though after a year I still can’t get the damn formatting right. Seriously, I HATE new Blogger.
Did you see they’ve screwed with commenting? Now I’ve got that to deal with, and heaven forbid they just fix post formatting! I WANT TO ADJUST PARAGRAPH SPACING DAMMIT! Without that stupid "Normal-Paragraph-Heading-Subheading" crap. And Also without it crashing on me!!! I used to be able to just paste my etymology list in from Excel and it was perfect, but nope, they had to wreck that. I have to copy it in from a Word file and because it’s a Word file, it screws up the formatting, but what else am I supposed to do when I have well over a thousand words that I’m not typing in and spacing one by one???

Kind of devolved into a rant on that last one. I think I have some stuff to work out. Which I wouldn’t if I could just use Old Blogger!

Okay, enough of that before I unleash another rant…

May Goals
1. More beta reads. Still need more people.

2. Finish new WIP. This one will hopefully be easy.

3. Work on an new draft of my query letter. And watch it become obsolete almost immediately.

So that’s what I want to do for May. Though I’m tempering my expectations.

May Goals

Time for this again. What was I even supposed to be doing last month?

April Goals
1. Work on one of my project ideas. I have so many, it shouldn’t be this hard.
I may have accidentally written 40K in a new WIP. Whoops.

2. Update my etymology page. It’s been months!
I did that! Still can’t get rid of those damn extra spaces, though.

3. Actually work on those notes! I think we can all guess how this is going to go.
Ha ha, no.

That was April. Now for our beloved Three-Milk:

1. Add another 40K to the WIP.

2. Go back to work on one of my old projects, which still needs to be beta read. If you’re interested, let me know.

3. Work on the notes. I know I’m not going to do it, but I can at least not forget about it.

So that’s my plan for May. What are you up to this month?

May Goals

Well, we survived April. It wasn’t a decade long like March was, but it was at least a few years. I think I spent the entire time screaming. So if you heard a high pitched “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA” that was me.

Did I have goals for last month? It was so long ago I can’t remember.

April Goals
1. Finish edits for the other WIP so it’s at the point where it’s ready for beta readers.
Unfortunately, I didn’t do this. I wanted to, but every time I opened the file I couldn’t think about anything but the… you know.

2. Finally finish working on the notes I made for WIP’s sequel.
Same as above. Honestly, I’m not blaming myself for this one. It was a really tough month to be a human being.

3. Find a way not to be overwhelmed.
I did do this, although I did it by starting a completely new WIP. Yeah. Well, it was the only thing that distracted me.

That was April. Now for May.

May Goals
1. Get to 50K on the new WIP. Since I’m already at 10K and I just started a week ago, this shouldn’t be a problem.

2. If I have the time, keep working on my old projects that I really shouldn’t abandon.

3. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. This really isn’t a goal. Just something I needed to get out.

What are you doing this month? Stay safe out there (or preferably isolated in your homes).

May Goals

Oh, man, it’s Threemilk already. Summer’s right around the corner. Not that it feels that way around here!

So let’s look at how badly I’ve failed my goals this month:

April Goals
1. Finish the notes from my beta readers.
Yes, in a minor miracle, I did do this.

2. Work on all the notes that I’ve made because of suggestions from my beta readers.
I…didn’t do this. Like, at all. I wanted to, but I just felt… creatively drained. Also just drained in general. April was a stressful month.

3. If I’m able to finish the first two notes, then I can start editing the short story I wrote last year.
Yeah, if I didn’t do the last one, you probably shouldn’t expect me to do this one.

Not very good last month. I really wish I could just plug myself in and recharge. It would make things a lot easier.

May Goals
1. Start making nots for my other WIP, because I feel more enthused about working on that project than my other one.

2. Hopefully actually get to the notes on WIP 1 this time.

3. Find something to do to recharge myself creatively. I have no idea what, though.

That’s my (hopeful) plan for this month. What are your plans for this month? What do you do when you need to recharge creatively?

May Goals

It’s May! Now every time I write “may” in a sentence it will try to autocorrect to the date. Good thing I don’t write it that much.

Now, let’s look at my goals for last month.

April Goals
1. Finish the book! If I haven’t already. As of this writing, I have two more chapters left. I may have already tweeted my victory, though.
WOOOOOO! I did it! The first draft was done! I was pretty vocal about it on Twitter, so most of you are probably already aware of this. Still could use more accolades, though.

2. Make a plan for editing!
Did this, too. It was pretty easy.

3. Start editing!
This was…well, not easy. Kind of tedious, really. And I would have completed my first major read through with notes if my stupid frigging laptop power jack didn’t break.

A pretty good month, laptops notwithstanding. Now, for May…
1. Finish the read through and all the editing notes that come with it.

2. Start working on the notes. I’m not so sure I’ll be able to finish them as it looks like there’s going to be around six hundred, varying from “change this word” to “change this whole section”.

3. Find something mindless and boring for me to do to recharge with. I have a feeling I’m going to need it.

So that’s the plan for May. What are you up to this month?

May Goals

Happy Threemilk everyone! It’s the best month out of the year. Not too hot, not too cold, and the bugs aren’t out in full force yet. It’s also finally stopped raining all the time. But that might be a New England thing. Anyway, goals.

April Goals
1. Get at least 5000 words done. I know that’s not a lot, but I’m so busy!
Did this, plus some extra. Woo!

2. Get to work on my side-blog project. I’m going to need to work super hard to get all this done. Thankfully this might be doable since I have some awesome people helping me.
It’s all done, woo! We did a great job. Mostly everyone else, of course : ).

3. Update my etymology page. I don’t want to put it off too long!
An easy one. It’s all up to date up to the question words.

Hey, I did it all. And now I’m really, really tired. Okay, what am I doing this month?

May Goals
1. Write at least 5000 more words. I’d like to have more, but I also want to do some minor editing to make sure the whole thing is working right.

2. Check out some old projects and see if any of them are worth working on.

3. Now that it’s warm enough, spring cleaning.

So these are my plans for Threemilk. What are you up to this month?

May Goals

Well, with the Challenge over, it’s time to get back to my regular posts, which means that it’s time to look at my goals for this month. But first, let’s look at how I did last month…

April Goals
1. The Challenge! Visit at least five new blogs every day. At least finding new ones won’t be a problem!
I did the Challenge! I overestimate how many blogs I’d have time to visit though. I usually got to at least one new one every day. Sometimes it’s best to set ambitious goals even if you know you won’t make it.

2. The pattern is done, so do some actual writing this time, dammit!
Ha ha! I actually did it! I was able to write! And I was sooooooo happy!

3. Spring Cleaning. Yeah, I’m making this a goal. Might as well have an easy one :P.
Well, it was seventy degrees out at the beginning of the month! Then it snowed. Then it rained. Then it was seventy degrees out again. Spring Cleaning was a little more erratic than I expected.

Not bad! At least there were no huge disasters.

May Goals
1. Look at revisions for old projects and see what needs to be done.

2. Come up with a plan for what I want to write next. In addition to the revising, I should look at doing something brand new.

3.  Update the Etymology page on the blog. It’s been a while…

So that’s my May. What are you up to?

May Goals

First of all: it’s my 888th post! Whoo! I’m just in love with that perfect number.

Here are my monthly goals, a week late because I did my A-to-Z reflections post last week. Which you all obviously know. I mean, I doubt there’s anyone here reading this post who hasn’t read last week’s. Although I guess my new followers from the Challenge haven’t seen my monthly goal posts (Ha!) before. I do monthly posts where I list my goals. There. Now you know.

April Goals
1. Write a short story. I actually have an idea for one. Not sure what will happen with it, but it’s writing.
I did write part of one. I was still pretty busy, so it’s not done yet. I also did some writing on my horror WIP. I just wish I had time to do more!

2. Figure out how to fix all the damage. Again, I hate having to make this a goal, but I have a feeling it’s going to be occupying my thoughts a lot this month…
For those unaware, there was some water damage from the horrible winter storms from January to March. They left some nasty stains on the ceiling! I was able to paint over the damage, which is good, but one of the door frames is swollen so the front door doesn’t close properly. I’m not quite sure what to do about that.

3. A-to-Z Challenge! Yay! My posts are all ready, but I have to be sure to visit new blogs every day, as well as all my usuals. Expect a lot of late comments from me.
Yep, did this. I wish I could have visited more : ).

Not bad. Could be better, though.

May Goals
1. Update my site. That includes remembering to update my Monthly Goal list! I also need to start writing down my goals on a post-it or something so I see them every day and remember what I need to do.

2. Keep writing my WIP. I don’t know how much I’ll get done since there’s only one day I really have time to write, and even that’s not that much. At least four thousand words would be nice.

3. Spring Cleaning! I’m glad it’s finally warm enough to do it.

Okay, so this is what I’ll be up to this month. What are your plans for May?

Tuesday, May 6, 2014

May Goals

May already! I don’t know if it was because of the A-to-Z Challenge or what but April sure went by fast. For those just tuning in, I like to post my goals on the first Tuesday of every month to shame motivate myself into getting them done. Sometimes it even works.

First, let’s look at my goals for last month…

April Goals

1. Get more feedback on COLLAPSE query, maybe even rewrite it again. If I get something I like, I want to send out ten more queries.
I did rewrite it again, although I haven’t gotten any feedback and I’m still not one hundred percent sure it will work. I just hope it’s not as big a dud as my last one.

2. Forty thousand more words written in MALICE.
Did this! Plus some extra! Yay me!

3. A-to-Z challenge!!! Wooo! I’m planning on visiting at least ten other A-to-Z-ers every day, in addition to all the people I normally visit who are participating.
Yep! Hi, new friends! And old ones! I don’t think I got to ten every day (I may have over committed myself there) but I didn’t do too bad.

And now for this month…

May Goals

1. Send out ten more queries for COLLAPSE. I hope I garner some interest this time…

2. Finish MALICE. I’m not sure how many words I still have to go, but I should definitely be able to get it done this month.

3. Update my blogs etymology pages. I have a feeling this is going to be more complicated than it looks (it sure was last time!).

Well, that’s what I’m up to this month. I’m also going to be busy doing a major cleanout, so I probably won’t get as much writing done as I’d like. Boo. Anyway, what are you doing this month?

May Goals

Wow, May already. Things are really getting beautiful out. It’s nice and sunny, but I’m not dying of the heat. I can leave the windows open without being deafened by crickets. It’s really and truly spring now! Except in Minnesota and Colorado. You’d think they were in the southern hemisphere or something.

April Goals

Goal 1: Get COLLAPSE out to some beta readers!!! I get so nervous about sharing my work, so this is going to be a hard one. There are still some word issues, and maybe some with pacing and the like, but I feel like I procrastinate too long on things like this. Anyway, getting feedback will help me figure out what needs to be done.
Done, if by “some” I meant “one”. However she’s a good beta reader who already gave me some things to fix, so I’d call this a win.

Goal 2: Start following more blogs on Tumblr. I think I’ll keep this as a weekend project so it won’t interfere with my writing.
Mostly a fail. I followed a couple of new ones, but I find Tumblr a little hard to navigate. Although I’m reminded how many months (namely, a lot) it took me to really get into Twitter. It also didn’t help that I had some other stuff to deal with that kind of interfered with my ability to get stuff done.

Goal 3: Work on notes (and maybe some sort of, shudder, outline) for my new project, which is actually a rewrite of an old project. This should satisfy my urge to do something new. I’ve got some good ideas brewing. It will be nice to sink my teeth into writing again.
Mostly done. I have a couple of end chapters left, and I definitely want to have the ending in mind before I start to work on this. And I do, pretty much, but I like to be exact about things.

So, not bad. I really could have done better, though, especially with that Tumblr thing. Social media is hard for me sometimes. Anyway…

May Goals

1. Get COLLAPSE out to more beta readers. I do want to fix some things from my reader first, but that shouldn’t take more than two weeks.

2. Actually follow some more blogs on Tumblr this time. This shouldn’t be that hard! Your weekends are wide open, self!

3. Start on rewrite. Maybe. I’m not sure if I’ll have time, but it would stop me from worrying about beta reads. It’s hard sending my baby out on its own!
