June Goals

Somehow, it’s June already. Summer is weeks away, as is the midway point of the year. I’m sure I’ve accomplished absolutely nothing.

May Goals
1. Start writing something new.
Kind of. I’ve been fooling around with side stories to old projects. I still haven’t figured out what I want to work on next.

2. Edit the web serial and improve it.
Did this. Well, I edited. I’m not exactly sure I improved it.

3. Figure out what I want to do next for my last WIP. It’s not quite ready to be looked at by others, so I want to get it there.
I didn’t do this, as I haven’t been quite ready to look at it. I may need input from others.

As I thought, pretty much nothing. Some months you just have to get through.

June Goals
1. Start posting the web serial again, and keep working on it.

2. Do something fun and distracting to recharge.

3. Work on getting beta readers for my WIP. Opening up to people with my work is hard, and I need people I can trust. So yeah. This is quite a task.

What do you want to do this month? Where do you look for beta readers?

June Goals

Crud, how is it June already? There’s no way I got anything done. May was over too fast.

May Goals
1. Plan out the second part of the web serial.
Already started working on it. I’m over 30K already.

2. Keep working on marketing—why does this have to be so hard?
Didn’t really do this. I have no idea how it works.

3. Try to recharge in some way so the stress doesn’t cause me to spontaneously combust.
I’m feeling slightly less stressed, I guess.

So that’s all. Not particularly successful. I’m not even sure what I should try for this month…

June Goals
1. Get to 60K on the sequel WIP.

2. Rearrange my whole writing schedule in a way that hopefully works since I have a bunch more stuff on my plate.

3. Keep trying on the marketing stuff, even if I have no idea how.

It’s a reasonable plan, I think. What do you want to do this month? It’s finally getting nice here, what’s the weather like where you are?

June Goals

What? This again? Ugh.

May Goals
1. More beta reads. Still need more people.
Well, it’s underway. This would probably be easier if I knew more people.

2. Finish new WIP. This one will hopefully be easy.
Actually did do this, and it was fairly easy. No idea what I’m going to do with it, but hey, it’s there.

3. Query letter.
I did do some work on it, though definitely not enough. I’m so bad at motivating myself to do this sort of thing.

So I guess this month was successful, in spite of being a hot pile of garbage otherwise. I’m really glad May is over for another year. Though now that leaves June…

June Goals
1. Get to work on more beta reads, as well as the notes from them.

2. Figure out what I want to do with my latest WIP, as it’s definitely not what I want it to be.

3. Try to do something with the query, synopsis, and all that. Man, I wish I could have someone do it all for me.

That’s what I hope to do this month. Hopefully things won’t suck quite as hard. But I won’t be holding my breath.

What do you want to do this month?

June Goals

Oh man. It’s June already? I can’t believe that happened. Just a few more weeks until summer here. What am I supposed to be doing?

May Goals
1. Add another 40K to the WIP.
This was the easy part, of course.

2. Go back to work on one of my old projects, which still needs to be beta read. If you’re interested, let me know.
It’s in progress! Although I wish I had more time to go over the beta reads!!!

3. Work on the notes. I know I’m not going to do it, but I can at least not forget about it.
If you’ve been paying attention these last few months, you should know how this went.

Not a bad month. I really wish I had more time, though. If someone could make the month twice as long, I’d get a lot more writing done. Anyway, June…

June Goals
1. Finish the latest WIP. It’s turned out a bit longer than I expected, but this should be easy.

2. Get to work on the beta reading notes for the old WIP. This one needs a lot more work!

3. Sigh. Actually work on the editing notes for my other WIP. Maybe it’ll be possible with the other one done.

That’s what I’ll have no time to do this month. What do you want to accomplish this June?

June Goals

Well, May felt shorter than April, but not by much. Still felt a few years long. I know I was supposed to do something last month but I can’t remember what…

May Goals
1. Get to 50K on the new WIP. Since I’m already at 10K and I just started a week ago, this shouldn’t be a problem.
Yeah, this was easy. I’m almost at 60K. So yeah. Pretty successful.

2. If I have the time, keep working on my old projects that I really shouldn’t abandon.
Was not successful here. I know I should, I just had no energy to work on anything else.

3. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. This really isn’t a goal. Just something I needed to get out.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Honestly, it was a pretty good month. In spite of, you know, everything.

June Goals
1. Finish new WIP. Not thinking this will be any problem.

2. Actually work on one of my old projects this month! The exclamation point means I’m serious!

3. Update the etymology page. I keep forgetting to do this!

It’s June, and summer is due to start here (and feels like it already has). What are you doing this month?

June Goals

Well, another month bites the dust. Was it more successful than April? Marginally. Not that it didn’t have its own pain-in-the-assery to deal with.

What was I supposed to be doing this month?

May Goals
1. Start making notes for my other WIP, because I feel more enthused about working on that project than my other one.
I did do this. Now I have, like, four hundred. Oi, rough drafts.

2. Hopefully actually get to the notes on WIP 1 this time.
Yes, I finally finished these. Time to find some more beta readers.

3. Find something to do to recharge myself creatively. I have no idea what, though.
I came up with a stupid project to keep myself entertained. It was a lot of fun and I was able to get through all my notes.

So I got more done, but still. What a freaking month. And now we’ve got summer on us.

June Goals
1. Get more beta reads for WIP 1. I still have a lot of questions about what works and what doesn’t.

2. Distract myself from the above by working on all the notes for the other WIP.

3. Update etymology page. I don’t want to forget!

That’s the plan, anyway. How I wish this was ten years ago when there were all those blog events that connected people. I had a bunch of beta readers back then!

Anyway, what do you want to do this month?

June Goals

Whoa, it’s June already? How did this happen? It seems like the beginning of May was just yesterday.

Anyway, let’s look at what I was supposed to do last month.

May Goals
1. Finish the read through and all the editing notes that come with it.
I did this! On May 1st, if I recall correctly.

2. Start working on the notes. I’m not so sure I’ll be able to finish them as it looks like there’s going to be around six hundred, varying from “change this word” to “change this whole section”.
Hey, I did this, too. It was indeed over six hundred, but somehow I managed to get through all of them. And yet I’m STILL finding things I need to change.

3. Find something mindless and boring for me to do to recharge with. I have a feeling I’m going to need it.
Yeah, I did this too, because nothing makes you want to edit more than doing something that’s even more boring.

That’s another month down. What’s next?

June Goals
1. Do my first color partition—when I highlight different parts of the MS in different colors to make sure everything works. I know I’ve posted about this at some point…

2. Do my second color partition—this one is checking for sensory cues to make sure descriptions are evocative. I’ve explained this one, too.

3. Update my etymology page. I can’t remember the last time I did it, which means it’s time to do it again.

So that’s my plan for this month. What are you going to be doing?

June Goals

It’s June already?! But it’s still cold! And rainy! I’m telling you, it’s still April! Oh man. I did NOTHING this month…

May Goals
1. Write at least 5000 more words. I’d like to have more, but I also want to do some minor editing to make sure the whole thing is working right.
I didn’t manage to get all of it, only about three thousand words. All in the last week of the month. Yeah, it was not a productive month.

2. Check out some old projects and see if any of them are worth working on.
Did not do this. Maybe if one of them seemed exciting enough, but I’m just not feeling it.

3. Now that it’s warm enough, spring cleaning.
When I wrote this, it was actually warmer than it was now. And not raining all the time. Seriously, there’s been an hour of sun in the last week. Anyway, I was not able to do as much as I would have liked!

Welp, not awful, but not great either. I probably would have been more productive if I wasn’t so anxious all the time. Mostly about republicans trying to take away my healthcare. Anyway, this month.

June Goals
1. Get to 50K on my WIP (so about six thousand words).

2. Start organizing the outline for abovementioned WIP. This is actually pretty early for me.

3. Get to all the stuff this month that I didn’t do last month. If it ever stops raining!

That’s what I’m doing for June. What are you up to?

July Goals

The year is now more than half over. I think it’s safe to say I’ve accomplished nothing.

June Goals
1. Try to find more time to write. And, you know. Write.
I did do this, and fairly successfully I think. Yay!

2. Finish that short story from last month. Well, last last month. Yes, this is a separate goal. I couldn’t think of anything else I’ll be doing this on the weekend, which is technically my free time.
Only a “kind of” on this one, as I worked on it, but as usual, it was a bit longer than I thought it would be.

3. Update the etymology page again. It has to be done sometime!
Yay! Did it! Using Excel for this is so much easier than Word. It comes out in such nice, even rows. Seriously, go look at it. It’s a thing of beauty.

Actually pretty good. Let’s hear it for realistic goals! And now, for this month…

July Goals
1. Figure out what I want to do with the fantasy idea that I have. Obviously I want to write a book, but I have to see about having the time!

2. Work on my other projects and hopefully make enough money to, you know, live.

3. Start working on extra post ideas because next month is August and you know that’s vacation month. And my birthday! WOOOO!

Okay, so that’s what I have planned for July. I think I can do it. What about you?

June Goals

It’s that time again! It’s been a while since I’ve done it the actual first Tuesday of the month. I don’t know why I feel the need to point that out. I…I might be boring.

So, let’s do this.

May Goals
1. Update my site. That includes remembering to update my Monthly Goal list! I also need to start writing down my goals on a post-it or something so I see them every day and remember what I need to do.
Yep, did this. Thankfully, an easy one.

2. Keep writing my WIP. I don’t know how much I’ll get done since there’s only one day I really have time to write, and even that’s not that much. At least four thousand words would be nice.
I did, but as always, not as much as I’d like. Sigh…

3. Spring Cleaning! I’m glad it’s finally warm enough to do it.
Also did this, although there’s still so much more to do! I’m still liking it more than winter, though.

Meh. I wish I got more writing done. Stupid life, always getting in the way.

June Goals
1. Try to find more time to write. And, you know. Write.

2. Finish that short story from last month. Well, last last month. Yes, this is a separate goal. I couldn’t think of anything else I’ll be doing this on the weekend, which is technically my free time.

3. Update the etymology page again. It has to be done sometime!

And that’s the plan for June, besides enjoying the nice weather before it gets so hot that I start melting. What do you guys have planned for this month?

June Goals

June is here. 2014 is already half over. We march ever onward towards death.

Sorry. That got kind of dark there. So what was I up to last month?

May Goals

1. Send out ten more queries for COLLAPSE. I hope I garner some interest this time…
Yeah, I did it, and I haven’t gotten even a glance. It’s weird how a win can feel so much like a loss. Boo…

2. Finish MALICE. I’m not sure how many words I still have to go, but I should definitely be able to get it done this month.
Yep, done. At least this one feels like a win. Draft one is done and ready to be ripped to shreds and put together as something readable. Maybe.

3. Update my blog’s etymology pages. I have a feeling this is going to be more complicated than it looks (it sure was last time!).
Did it! Did you see? Well, it’s kind of hard to notice since there’s like a million words there (that might be exaggerated a tad, but whatevs), but I updated it. If I’ve etymologized it, it’s up there.

And now for June…

June Goals
1. Read aloud of Malice, including taking notes, and then fixing said notes. I’m fairly certain I can get this done, although reading the entire thing out loud might take longer than I expect.

2. Sigh…do SOMETHING about my query. Obviously it’s going to need a complete and total rewrite. I may end up having to join some forum or other just to get some opinions, which I’m really not looking forward to. Did I say sigh yet?

3. Two more apocalypse posts! I’ve kind of done zombies to death lately, so I’ll see if I can whip up something about one of the million other apocalypses waiting to take us out.

Okay, so that’s what my June looks like. What about you guys? You up to anything this month? Any writing goals you want to share?

July Goals

I fear this month wasn’t as successful as May…

June Goals

1. Finish collecting and giving critiques. This should be easy. I love beta reading.
Still in the middle of this, although there isn’t much I can do to get critiques done faster. I forget sometimes that most people don’t read 10K a day.

2. Start posting more at the Spamfiles. I think having more posts will attract more readers. Could it be that other people don’t find spam as amusing as I do?
Got this one done. I’m still disappointed that I don’t have more followers, though.

3. Add 20K more words to my rewrite. Usually first draft writing is easy for me, but I’ve been feeling a little bit of the writer’s block lately. I hope I can do it.
Kind of a failure. Because it’s a rewrite, there are still some things from the old version that I can use, so I’ve been working on that. But I could have done more if I hadn’t gotten distracted by a shiny new project. Darn your shininess!

Not as successful maybe, but not bad. I should’ve done more with number 3. On the other hand, I got a bunch of stuff done that wasn’t on my list, like aforementioned new project (something like twenty K there, so pretty good), and switching over to the new blog. I’d give my final grade as a B. An actual B, too, not a scaled B. Not bad.

Okay, now for July (I can’t believe the year is half over already!)

July Goals

1. Finish going over suggestions from previous readers for COLLAPSE. Maybe try to find more critique partners. I’ve got some good feedback, but I don’t know if four is enough (especially when I don’t have them all back yet).

2. Be more present in social media. Mostly I want to leave more comments, respond to every one I receive, and return the favor.

3. Add 20K more to New Project and finish combining the new and the old versions.

I wonder if it’s too ambitious or not ambitious enough.

Anyway, what are your plans for July, for writing or otherwise? Anyone doing anything fun?

Tuesday, June 4, 2013

June Goals

June already! 2013 sure has been going by fast. It’s already summer, if not by the date then by the hot, muggy weather.

May was far more productive than April, as you will see:

May Goals

1. Get COLLAPSE out to more beta readers. I do want to fix some things from my reader first, but that shouldn’t take more than two weeks.
Nailed it! Plus I signed up for the WIP It blogfest to meet more potential beta/critiquers. I’d call this one 200% done.

2. Actually follow some more blogs on Tumblr this time. This shouldn’t be that hard! Your weekends are wide open, self!
Yes, I did this. I hoped it would let me meet more people and get more followers, but I’m still stuck at a pitiful four. So I did it, but it’s kind of a fail anyway.

3. Start on rewrite. Maybe. I’m not sure if I’ll have time, but it would stop me from worrying about beta reads. It’s hard sending my baby out on its own!
Also done, with about 20K written in the new version. Another “Nailed It!”

So I did good, although not with all the results I hoped for.

June Goals

1. Finish collecting and giving critiques. This should be easy. I love beta reading.

2. Start posting more at the Spamfiles. I think having more posts will attract more readers. Could it be that other people don’t find spam as amusing as I do?

3. Add 20K more words to my rewrite. Usually first draft writing is easy for me, but I’ve been feeling a little bit of the writer’s block lately. I hope I can do it.

So it’s going good. What does your June look like? Are those of you who are parents drowning in children on summer break yet?
