Mysteries

Not, like, the genre. Just something weird. Last week I got an email that I first thought was spam, but then realized wasn’t:

1. I didn’t order any appliance repair.
2. I looked up the case number, and it’s for a top loading washer/dryer, which I don’t even have.
3. The company it came from is in New York City, like four hours away from where I live.

So, yeah. This isn’t for me. I don’t know why or how I could have gotten this. I don’t know if someone gave them a fake email address or maybe just transposed a character somewhere. Honeil4(at)gmail(dot)com could be wondering why their confirmation email never showed up.

Anyway, I just thought that was weird. Have you ever gotten anything that was meant for anyone else? What did you do about it?

  1. I wonder if you should let them know?

  3. No, it's spam.
They want you to call the number, that being the only way to respond to the email.
The email about the service you didn't order.
Once on the phone, they will take your personal information. You know, in regards to your order.
    It's a total scam.

  4. We had to do a cyber-security course at work recently, and this is the kind of really clever spam designed to make you think it's real. Don't click on anything or you'll probably find your entire system gets taken over.

  5. Oh, interesting. I've never seen anything like that either, but I think the other comments about it being spam are probably correct. Definitely don't call. I know someone that called about some issue or other, and the scammer said to stay on the line while something something something, and they ended up hacking her phone. Or trying. The "stay on the line for 12 minutes" sounded fishy to her, so she hung up.

  6. That's spam, but I can see how it might be misleading.
