Up Early

I had to get up early for a doctor’s appointment last Monday. So I figured the best thing to do would be to go to bed early so I wouldn’t be too tired the next day.

Let’s see how that turned out for me.

Alternative title: don’t be responsible it will only lead to misery.

  1. I go to bed around 10-10:30 every night and get up between 5-5:30 for work during the week. It's not enough sleep but there's no way I could go to bed before ten.

  2. My problem is that I do go to bed at a reasonable hour (I need my sleep) but then I read for a few hours - until my eyes droop. So in the end, I only get about 5/6 hours sleep each night. It's enough at the moment.

  3. I've had nights where sleep finally comes at five in the morning, and if I have to be up at seven thirty in the morning, it's a nuisance!

  4. I take something for that.

Seriously. I used to never be able to fall asleep. I'd lay in bed for hours. (It's how I worked out the plot of the novel you read.) Then I was introduced to Melatonin. (Not sure if it's capitalized or not.) Took it regularly for about a year. (That was about 10 years ago.) Now when I go to bed, I can fall asleep in about 20 minutes.

But, if I have to be up early after not having to for a while (like, I was on vacation), I'll take some right before I go to bed (and in this case I'd be going to bed at least two hours earlier than usual), and sleep comes. It's a miracle for me. I swear by it.

  5. I take some herbal vitamins that contain valerian hops in them to help me sleep. Mostly staying asleep, as I can fall asleep within minutes every time. (I think that's because I am go-go-go all the time and the second I stop moving, I'm out.)

  7. LOL. That's why I never try to do that. No matter how early I have to get up, I go to bed at the same time.

  8. I usually sleep whenever. I'm so used to taking naps and having irregular sleep hours. I do sometimes find myself in bed unable to sleep, though. I get on my phone's apps to do something or read, and that puts me to sleep.

  9. I hate that. Every time I have an early flight or something, I lie awake most of the night worried I won't wake up in time. And I get up at 5:30 every day and very rarely oversleep. Yet still….
