Personality

Here’s something neat that I thought people might be interested in. It’s a personality quiz that claims not to be based on junk science. I mean, that probably isn’t true, but it’s still neat.

How it works is you answer a few question and it rates you on five qualities: Openness to experience, Extraversion, Negative emotionality, Conscientiousness, and Agreeableness. Each of those five qualities also has three sub-qualities, although I’m not going to get into all of them myself. Take the quiz yourself if you want to see them.

The average is that people end up with a kind of pentagram shape showing how much of each trait they embody, although the comparisons they gave show that the national average ends with most people having one much shorter side—the negative emotionality. I, on the other hand, had only a four out of a hundred in extraversion while my negative emotionality was off the charts.

I was not surprised by this.

I doubt something so short can really demonstrate the complexities of a human personality, but I found it amusing nonetheless. And accurate. If any of you guys want to try it, I’d love to hear what you think about it.

Vocab Test

Several months ago I came across a vocabulary test that I thought was fun but then I saw it on two other blogs before I could post it so I decided to wait a while. And now that it’s almost the end of the year and I can’t think of anything else, here it is!

The rules are pretty basic. You pick a language and then it shows you a word, and you pick from a set of four either the synonym or antonym of the word. It’s easy at first, but as it goes on, it starts throwing more and more obscure words at you. I tried to break them down and piece them together from the roots I’ve learned over years of etymology posts. Of course, considering how weird some of those etymologies are, I could have gotten them completely backwards.

Still, I did pretty well, getting in the 0.01th percentile, with a vocabulary of 30325. Big surprise, right? The reader/writer did super well! Shocking! I’m not actually sure how it was ranked. I guess that’s supposed to be 30325 words. It’s not exactly a scientific test :P.

How’s your vocabulary? Did you do well on the test? Any words that you had never heard of before?

Colorblind

Oh man, how did it get this late? Well, okay, it’s 4 a.m. at the time I’m posting this, but I’m actually writing it at almost midnight. Today just got away from me.

So today I’m just going to share with you this neat color test. You organize the squares so that one color flows into the next. Just look at it and you’ll see what I mean. If you get a score of 0, you have perfect color acuity. 100 is basically “can you even see color?” It also shows you which area you’re color deficient in.

Here, I took a screen cap of my test:

I got a 15, which isn’t bad (the last time I took it I got 23, so I guess my vision sharpened over the past couple of weeks). I got pretty close, but those blue-greens got me.

Anyone else take it? How’d you do?
