What are we up to? Day 20? It seems like a lot longer.
Anyway, role. That’s what we’re doing.

Role showed up in the early seventeenth century, relatively recent in etymology terms. It comes from the French rĂ´le, which means…role. Apparently the line of thinking was that a role was a part someone played in life and was inspired by the fact that an actor’s part would be written on a roll of paper.
Seriously. Role comes from roll. Because of plays. Why’d they even change the spelling?
