Deafening

There’s a rat or a mouse or something in the attic right above my bedroom. It likes to chew on wood. Loudly. While I’m trying to sleep.

I’m not sure how I expected her to get the thing. It was three a.m. I was tired. Leave me alone.

And no, I can’t get the other cat to do it. Veronica is fourteen years old and fat. The only thing she can catch is sleep.

  1. Lazy bum of a cat. She needs to go spend some time in the attic. Or you need mouse poison, but then someone has to go up there and put them out.

  2. Most of my cats would never earn their keep and hunt down mice or even bugs. Except our current cat Rocko - she once beat the crap out of a baby rat snake that got into the house. I'm surprised the noise doesn't at least interest your cats.

  3. I've got squirrels between floors- my ceiling and the top floor of the house, and I'm now the only person in the building until I leave, so I can hear them racing around regularly.

  4. Sounds like you need some poison… My place is next to a field so we get mice in here whenever it starts getting cold outside. We have a very good relationship with the pest control guys. My cats were really good at hunting those fast-moving, lethal creatures called worms. Nothing like getting up in the night to a slimy, squishy gift outside the bedroom door!

  5. Ugh. That would drive me nuts. Get some traps.

  6. Can you get the cat into the attic? I wonder if one of those high pitched whine thingies might help. It plays a tone that is too high for humans to hear, but it's annoying to critters.

  7. We had that this winter also. I had to set traps since our dear, wonder hunter passed away. She was really good though sometimes she'd bring to mice to me when they were still alive.
