Resolutions 2014

I think this year, when I forget to write 2014 instead of 2013, it’s going to be because I’m still in denial about it.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Anyway, what should I accomplish this year?

1. Get my newest book, REMEMBER, to the point where it can be beta read.
It’s still pretty rough right now (the first draft still isn’t done), so it will take a lot of work to get it there.

2. Start working on a (gulp) query for COLLAPSE.
I have a few rough copies, but I doubt any would entice readers. Ooh, this is the most terrifying goal.

3. Try to find some way to post my progress on my goals, both yearly and monthly.
I’d like to see how I’m doing and whether I need to work harder.

4. Read more dystopian/apocalyptic/paranormal YA.
For, you know, research. This is probably going to be an easy goal.

5. Think of ways to make my blog posts more interesting.
And implement them. That last “Informal Poll” thing was a huge bust. I have some other ideas in mind, but who knows if they’ll be successful.

6. Try to start a movement to simplify the English language.
Seriously, is the letter C really necessary? And don’t say we need it for the “ch” sound. We can use Q for that and not for “kw”, which is weird anyway. Every other use of C can be replaced with K or S. I’m also not a fan of using G for the “juh” sound, but one thing at a time.

7. Get over my doubts about selling an apocalyptic story in a glutted YA market and just DO IT.
I feel like this one is self-explanatory.

Well, it’s 2014. What are your goals?

  1. Good luck with your goals! I do No.4 regularly, and like you say being YA they're usually quite quick to read :) No 3 I've also tackled this year. Have created a chart for January and then at the beginning of Feb will review it and make Feb's. I'm hoping posting it on my blog will make me more likely to succeed, knowing I have to share with readers if I fail!

  2. I'm with you on #6. (The others, too, but that one is urgent.)

  3. The fifth one made me chuckle. I think your posts are interesting!

  4. This is the third post this week I've seen having to do with getting rid of one of the letters. The other two were "x" and "k." Now, see, both "k" and "c" can't go, and, if I have to pick one to stay, I'm choosing "c," because I don't want to start saying my ABDs.

    Just say no to querying.

  5. Write out your goals, set each one's deadline, and then list what you'll have to do to achieve it, including mini-goals as steps. Print it out on a chart so you can see it every day and mark your weekly progress.
Sorry, I'm big on goal-setting. And you did ask...

  6. Good luck on your resolutions. Here's hoping that you make every goal this year, with months to spare.

  7. Good luck with your goals. Querying is not easy. I rewrite my queries so many times.

  8. Love that #4 goal. Research is very important.

And I hate querying. It's definitely not easy. Probably a part of why I don't do it anymore. But I wish you luck with it.

  9. We could get rid of the q or the x. Who'd really miss them?
