It happened again. I have been lured away from one WIP by the seductive beauty of a Shiny New Idea. It is simply irresistible. I have no choice but to go down this path and see if I can’t make my way through it.
In truth, I need this project. Even though I like it, I’ve been struggling to write my horror WIP. I’m not going to abandon it (again) (probably), but I do know that my muse is yammering in my ear about this one and I’d like to keep her happy and hopefully get something publishable out of it. It’s not like I’m on deadline, so I might as well take advantage of it.
Writing is…a complicated beast. I know what works for me, and I know that might not work for other people. I know this is something I have to do. And I plan to enjoy it : ). So you might have to put up with increasingly pointless posts (like this one) while all my creativity is being used up elsewhere. Fair warning.
Happy writing!
You have the ability to change and try something different now. Enjoy that. Once you're on a timeline, it's very different.
ReplyDeleteYou can't ignore a yammering muse.
ReplyDeleteI think your muse might be more like... I don't know the word for it. Let's say it's like a leprechaun leading you away from the pot of gold.
ReplyDeleteJust go with it. I always like to have two things going anyway so when I'm stuck on one, I can work on the other while I get un-stuck.
ReplyDeleteThis happens to me. A lot of the time, the Shiny wears off pretty quick and it turns out the whole purpose of the new idea was to let the old WIP simmer until it was ready to move forward. But once in awhile the Shiny turns out to be SHINY after all and going after it was the right idea. That happened with The Eighth Day. I put aside a 50k manuscript to write The Eighth Day instead. Best decision I ever made. Looking back those were 50k stinky words ...
ReplyDeleteWell, have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteSometimes we need to explore something new. Of course, when my brain gives me such ideas, it's more because what I'm working on now is getting hard and it's trying to lure me to something else. Bad brain!
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just need to step away from the WIP. I like to toggle between a couple projects (although at the moment I'm being very faithful to the novel I'm editing).
ReplyDeleteI love diving into the shiny new thing. Have fun.

Ah, the shiny new idea. This is why men leave their wives for women half their age.
ReplyDeleteUm, I mean...ok, sorry, I over-stretched that metaphor. AWKWARD.
;)
Seriously, have fun with it. That's the whole point, right?
I love shiny new ideas. I start writing notes like crazy and can't wait to get into drafting.
