January Goals

See? I said I was going to do it and here it is.

I think it’ll help me get more done if I have someone to be accountable to—namely, all of you. The potential embarrassment of not having completed my self-imposed goals will surely drive me towards completing them. Or towards a complete mental breakdown. Same difference, really.

Anyway, here’s what I want to get done this month:

Goal 1: Work on new Tumblr account.

Goal 2: I have over two hundred notes on COLLAPSE that I want to work on (word usage, phrasing, continuity, and feasibility mostly). I want to finish them all by the end of the month.

Goal 3: Finish editorial pass on GLITCH, with emphasis on word usage.

I’m not entirely sure how long it will take me to complete each of said goals, but this is the order I plan to go in. Goal 1 is actually almost taken care of (yay). You’ll see the results soon enough.

So what do you guys think of the whole posted-goal system? Do any of you do it? If yes, does it work? If no, why not?

  1. I think it can definitely work in terms of having a posted list to be accountable to...which is why I haven't posted my goals like this :) I'm a big chicken when it comes to goals this month (I've got a new little one coming any day now and am not sure how she'll affect my writing productivity~ depends what kind of sleeper she is!).

  2. That's not the kind of thing that works for me. Posting it isn't going to make me more likely to do it.

  3. It makes it seem more concrete to post it. So yeah, I am more likely to do it because I don't want to be mortally embarrassed! Although I'm sure people wouldn't think badly of me if I fail.

Your goals are very specific - I'm sure you'll manage them!

  4. I agree. I think posting your goals helps to accomplish them. It also helps get them clear in your own mind. Good luck on them!

  5. Tumblr! Oh, I'm keeping away from that for fear it might totally swallow up my free time.
    Happy New Year!

  6. I'm with Lydia... I think Tumblr would also swallow up free time.

And then there's Pinterest, which is also a time drain...

I haven't tried posted goals myself.
